I began to paint while I stayed in Australia at the age of 22, and when I was 24, I started my career as a painter based in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Could you please describe your work process in terms of composing an image as well as a\u00a0technical approach to creating the work.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the cat and bedroom series I&#8217;m mainly drawing at the moment, after deciding the\u00a0position and posing of the character, I roughly decide the bedding, furniture, and background\u00a0after which I compose a draft.\u00a0I value the harmony of the curves, straight lines, and silhouettes of each part.<\/p>\n<p>The painting process is the reverse of the draft, starting with the background and finally\u00a0finishing with the character.\u00a0I change matiere in each part, and each layer has a change.\u00a0For example, I spray the outside of the window to express abstract elements, and the\u00a0window frame is represented by rough brush strokes to express wood grain. What inspired them, and what are your source<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>materials?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The influence of the work covers a wide range of topics, but the heaviest inspiration is the\u00a0works of Japanese manga artist Shigeru Mizuki. I have been familiar with the Yokai he drew\u00a0since I was a child, and in particular, my encounter with his work &#8220;Nonnonba&#8221; inspired me to\u00a0draw a picture. As for recent materials, I often refer to animations from the 30s to 50s,\u00a0scenes from old Hollywood movies, manga magazines, and still life around me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How long have you been developing this visual language?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was 10 years ago that I started drawing and aspiring to be a painter. At first, I used\u00a0pointillism to draw trees and imaginary landscapes, but about two years later, I started pencil\u00a0drawing, and mainly produced imaginary seascapes for 5-6 years. During that time, I also\u00a0tried a little watercolor painting, and I started the acrylic painting which is my current drawing\u00a0style about two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>In the beginning, I painted the stuffed animal my daughter had very precisely on a monochromatic background, but reversing that relationship I got to my current style of letting a flat character juxtapose together in the elaborate background.<\/p>\n<p class='content-img-wrap'><a href=\"https:\/\/streetartnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/B4A2829.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[151711]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-151713 full-width\" src=\"https:\/\/streetartnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/B4A2829.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2362\" height=\"1575\" srcset=\"https:\/\/streetartnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/B4A2829.jpg 2362w, https:\/\/streetartnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/B4A2829-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/streetartnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/B4A2829-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/streetartnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/B4A2829-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/streetartnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/B4A2829-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/streetartnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/B4A2829-2048x1366.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/streetartnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/B4A2829-800x533.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2362px) 100vw, 2362px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>About your color palette, can you tell me more about the reason you chose to paint in<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>greyscale and would you consider anything else?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t even know the real reason myself.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe it is because I started drawing inspired by cartoons drawn in monochrome, or\u00a0because using a lot of colors probably exceeds the capacity of my technique.\u00a0However, I feel it is most beautiful to draw my work in grayscale.\u00a0When the color scheme, density, area, and balance and rhythm of black, white, and grey are\u00a0in harmony, the painting looks like it\u2019s shining.<\/p>\n<p>One thing I can say for sure is that it becomes unclear blurry when other colors get in there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaking of art history, do you have a particular artist or art movement that influences or\u00a0inspires you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One is Roy Lichtenstein. His flat works are an important element of my current style.\u00a0On the contrary, Christopher Wool is also a significant figure to me. I tried skateboarding, but it didn&#8217;t take root in my current\u00a0life. However, I long for street culture that appears as an expression of emotions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Have you ever been intrigued to transfer your studio work onto a mural \/ public art ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m interested in any field of expression that I have never tried. Facing mural paintings would\u00a0require a different kind of mental toughness from canvas.\u00a0It would be an opportunity to provide feedback to canvas works by exploring new ways of\u00a0drawing and new processes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I am interested in the ephemerity of paintings, do you view your own work as precious? If\u00a0you are unhappy with a work, do you tend to desstroy it or would you rather put it in storage\u00a0for a while and alter them at a later date?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is always a correct piece which will complete my artwork. I will continue to paint until I\u00a0find it. What type of works are you preparing?\u00a0Does it connect to previous works, or did you try something new?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Every time I draw new work, I always try new things even if they are small.\u00a0I will continue to make the CAT series, but at the same time, I will use trial and error to show\u00a0the next stage.<\/p>\n<p>There are also ideas for other themes, so you can see a series of works that go one step\u00a0further in 2021.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will you be showing your work somewhere any time soon?
